Enso Theatre Ensemble is producing the U.S. Premiere of SHE IS FIERCE: A Play Not By Shakespeare. After the highly successful run of The Romeo & Juliet Project at Shaking the Tree Theatre last June, Enso is bringing brand-new work in from the Netherlands as fodder for their next project.
Originally created and produced by members of Het Vijfde Bedrijf (The Fifth Act), a theatre company based in the Netherlands, Silent Sorrow and Lady Anne’s Toast to the Despicable Man are a series of contemporary monologues written from the perspectives of a selection of Shakespeare’s “overlooked” minor characters. Now, Enso is taking those pieces and devising a new, dynamic, immersive play called SHE IS FIERCE: A Play Not By Shakespeare.
Enso presented a successful staged reading of SHE IS FIERCE in November, and is now presenting it fully-staged this March.

ABOUT THE PLAY: "I should have opened my mouth much earlier."
Lady Anne Neville doesn't have much time left, but she is determined to use it. Over the course of an evening, this bedraggled queen is opening her Gallery of Secrets to take you on a personal tour. Inside are relics from the moment when it all went wrong--when Richard III claimed her hand in marriage--and Anne is finally ready to bring them out for a postmortem over a glass of pinot. With heartbreak and humor in equal measure, She Is Fierce invites us to raise a glass to our brokenness and to celebrate the fates we carry.
Joellen Sweeney will direct the all-female cast. Sweeney has directed, taught, and performed at a number of venues in town, including Third Rail Repertory Theatre, Northwest Children’s Theatre, Post5, and Staged!.
Enso is excited to have four brand-new faces comprising the ensemble for this production: Sam Bangs (Lady Anne), Sam Reiter (Margaret of Anjou), Hannah Hogan (The Girl) and Paige Rogers (The Duchess of York). Returning to the Enso design team for another stellar collaboration are Alana Wight (Costumes), Kelly Terry (Lights), Jordan Mackey (Set), Cooper Poole (Sound), and Joe Rogers (Stage Management). Enso is pleased to add two new faces, assistant stage managers Wolf Morgan-Steiner and Colin Herring.
Enso fills a unique niche in Oregon’s cultural community: they offer professional productions and theatre education in an environment of mindfulness and well-being. Enso’s previous two productions were highly successful adaptations of Pride & Prejudice and Romeo & Juliet, both created using their signature wellness-based process. Currently, Enso offers a “Word Elf” theater series for pre-K students, and a Student Director Mentorship program for young adults. For adults, they offer an ongoing Movement & Mindfulness meet-up.
Tickets for SHE IS FIERCE are valued at $25 with a sliding scale of additional price options offered to all audience members.
